Lakhnawi/ Chikankari Saree

A beautiful traditional wear from the city of Lucknow, Chikan embroidered sarees, also known as Lakhnawi Sarees, have been embraced by women from centuries. Chikankari has its roots in the Mughal era, and was initially hand woven using white thread on lightweight fabrics like muslin. Nowadays, chikan embroidery is also made with silk and coloured threads. There are several stories behind the origin of Chikankari, the most popular belief is that Mughal empress Noor Jahan, wife of Emperor Jahangir, introduced Chikankari technique in India. Usually, Chikankari sarees have delicate floral motifs as their base design. Chikankari sarees are an absolute must-have since they can suffice as both day and nightwear.
