Jodhpuri Suit

A stunning, regal and charming attire, Jodhpuri Suit is anticipated as one of the most opulent formal wear for Indian men. Consisting of a knee-length kurta and a trouser, this classy and suave attire was famous during the 19th - 20th century. Interestingly, the first ever Jodhpuri suit was made by accident, due to a wardrobe malfunction of Maharaja Pratap Singh of Jodhpur in 1987. It so happened that when the Maharaja was on a tour to England to attend the Diamond Jubilee celebrations by Queen Victoria, his luggage went missing in the transit. Maharaja didn’t want to wear any western attire so he asked a Savile Row tailor to make an outfit for him that would incorporate the beauty and splendour of Indian culture with a modern and creative western touch. Thus the famous Jodhpuri suit was invented.

Soon the Jodhpuri suits gained popularity as a fusion wear in the fashion circles and began to be worn by the royalties and supreme families of Jodhpur and was considered as a symbol of status. Nowadays, Indian men prefer wearing Jodhpuri suits during special occasions like weddings, receptions and formal parties.
