Sherwani

Sherwani, a quintessential symbol of royalty, elegance and dashing style, has a rich history which traces back in the 16th and 17th centuries when it was only worn by Turkish and Persian nobility during the Mughal Rule. But it was during the reign of Akbar when sherwani saw a convergence of Persian and Hindu styling in clothes. It was Akbar who changed the way we perceive sherwani today. He was credited for designing a common sherwani style for both Hindi and Muslim noblemen. After the Mughals left, sherwani went through another transformation during British rule, where the flary skirt and round hemlines were made into structured fitted jackets and coats and was worn by East India officials and the British army. Towards the end of the British rule, this sartorial elegance soon became the epitome of ethnic pride and revolution among Indian men. Today, sherwani still holds a special place in the fashion world and has become a style statement for Indian men, especially during weddings and festivals.
